GSCM Jack Leonard Shingleton US NAVY, age 90, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on March 9, 2026.
Jack was born on April 8, 1935, to Leonard and Virginia Shingleton. He grew up in Hagerstown, Maryland, where he worked on a farm during his teenage years while attending high school.
Jack proudly served in the United States Navy and retired after his 32 years of honorable service as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E9). During his 32 years of service, he received the Good Conduct Medal (4) National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. Honorably discharged. After his military service, he continued his career as an electrician.
Jack was known for his strong work ethic and his deep devotion to his wife. He believed in helping others and supported several charitable causes throughout his life. Earlier in his life, Jack worked at a radio station where he helped connect active-duty service members with their loved ones while they were stationed overseas or in other parts of the country. He often recalled being part of those meaningful connections, along with meeting, the love of his life, as among the proudest and happiest moments of his life.Jack is survived by his loving wife of 62 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Jack.
