    ABOUT THE MISSION:
    John's initial enlistment in the infantry saw him deployed to Vietnam where a land mine injury resulted in a medical discharge. He later re-enlisted and was sent back to Vietnam where he served as a gunner in a helicopter which was shot down. SGT Van Wyck was awarded two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.

    The family of Mr. Van Wyck asked the Patriot Guard to accompany him on his last ride to the cemetery and then stand a flag line at the interment service.

    Riders will stage at the funeral home, receive a safety briefing, and stage for the procession to the cemetery. Upon arrival, honor bikes will accompany the coach into the staging lane while the other riders proceed to the shelter to help set flags and await the arrival of the procession.

    Riders not participating in the procession will stage at the DFW National Cemetery Visitors Center to be briefed and then proceed to the appropriate shelter, set flags and await the arrival of the procession. Riders will stand tall and silent during the committal service, after which flags will be returned to the storage locker and riders will be debriefed and dismissed.

Find peace, strength and comfort in the knowledge that your fallen hero gave unselfishly of themselves in order to keep us all free and safe. Your brave warrior will never be forgotten.
