    Sgt. James Harvey DeLaby, Veteran
    USA, USAF - WWII, Korea
    MULTI-CITY, MULTI-STATE - 15 Jan 2018

    ABOUT THE MISSION:

It is with a heavy heart I must inform that we have lost another of the Greatest Generation of American Heroes.

The family of Sgt. James Harvey DeLaby has requested our presence to stand in silent honor and show our respect for his service to our country.

Sgt. DeLaby served in the U.S. Army during WW II and saw action in Northern France, the Ardennes and the Rhineland earning three Bronze Battle Stars. Following WW II and the outbreak of the Korean Conflict, he stood again to answer the call in the U.S. Air Force. His awards include not only the 3 Bronze Battle Stars but also the Japan Occupation Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and four Overseas Service bars.

Sgt. DeLaby was a active member of the American Legion Post 84 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, one daughter, one son, a step-daughter, 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. As a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be sorely missed.

We will establish and maintain a flag line prior to and during his funeral service.

We will move the flag line to render appropriately during the Military Honors provided by VFW 6060 Honor Guard.

Sgt. DeLaby will be laid to rest at the Albert G.. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.

We will again gather and escort him to his final resting place and render the appropriate honors with dignity showing our respect for his service to our country.

As I sit in Heaven, and watch you every day,
I try to let you know with signs, I never went away.
I hear you when you're laughing, and watch you while you sleep,
I even place my arms around you, to calm you as you weep.
I see you wish the days away, begging to have me home,
So I try to send you signs, so you know you are not alone.
Don't feel guilty that you have life, that was denied to me,
Heaven is truly beautiful, just you wait and see.
So live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free,
Then I know with every breath you take, you'll be taking one for me.
