    ABOUT THE MISSION:

    Joseph Stephen Merlo was born in New York 06/04/1932. Instead of pitching for the Yankees he was drafted and served his country for slightly more than 20 years. In addition to three tours in Germany and one tour in Okinawa Joe served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars and the Bronze Star Medal.

    Joe is survived by the love of his life who he married 05/29/1952, two daughters, two sons, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

    Our Lord in PSALMS 91 we are told, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart”. In John 11:25 Jesus said: "Whoever lives and believes in me shall never die". I also pray you will comfort the family of this warrior as they mourn. Give them the strength to understand your wisdom.     My sincere condolences to the family and friends of this American Hero, a grateful nation mourns your loss. Find peace, strength and comfort in the knowledge that your fallen hero gave unselfishly of themselves in order to keep us all free and safe. Your brave warrior will never be forgotten.
