    ABOUT THE MISSION:

    Major “Bud” Golden C. Kirkland, USMC (Ret), age 79, of Warrenton, VA passed away on 4 Nov 16. He served over 20 years in the Marine Corps, and saw combat during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star w/ (V) device for his actions during the Battle of Khe Sanh, in the Republic of Vietnam. After his retirement, he had a successful career as a senior executive in the defense and telecommunications sectors. Bud was an avid fly fisherman, creative writer and spent much of his time volunteering at various Wounded Warrior therapeutic and recreational events, including Boulder Crest Retreat, in Bluemount, VA. He is predeceased by his son, Captain Gary C. Kirkland, USMC, and survived by his wife Carolyn A. Kirkland and a large and loving family. He will be greatly missed by all.

    Major Golden Kirkland is to be interred with full military honors on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery on 21 March 2017 at approximately 1330 hours from the Ft. Myer Post Chapel. PGR has been invited to attend the services by his wife Carolyn. We will escort Maj Kirkland and his family to his final resting place and we will be there to stand tall silent and proud in honor of this Marine Corps Officer, his family, friends and comrades at arms.

    Honors: 1200 Hrs. Begin Flag Line, prior to arrival of Escort from FH.
    Honors: 1330 Hrs. Graveside (Time Approx.)

    Any rider planning on attending this mission, who does not have an issued Ft Myer Access Card, or does not have a DOD issued ID must enter Ft. Myer via the Hatfield Gate (Main Gate) only! Allow extra time for your ID/clearance check to take place at the gate. Once on base, proceed to Old Post Chapel and join mission.

    Concealed/carry permits are NOT recognized on military installations and federal reservations. Therefore do not bring weapons or hazardous materials to this mission.

    Sadly, another American veteran has departed this life, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. I offer to them my heartfelt condolences, and trust God will grant them the comfort they seek in the days ahead. I want to thank Golden C. Kirkland for taking a stand for freedom…thank you for reminding us there is a higher calling; America is a great nation because of patriots like you.
