Updated 15 Feb 11 at 2314 EST by Cagerbob

CONFIRMED MISSION: MCPO (Ret) Lyle A. Davenport, USN Veteran/PGR Member, Charlotte, NC, 18 FEB 11

Fellow Patriot Guard members, it is with a heavy heart that brings me to make this announcement. We have lost one of our very own, Lyle A. Davenport, to a tragic accident following a mission here on Saturday, 12 FEB 11. He was taken off life support this morning. Lyle was a dear friend, significant other, brother, father and grandfather.

Lyle served his country in the US Navy for 25 yrs. and retired as a Master Chief. He has stood with us on many missions to Honor our fallen heroes and now it is time to Stand For Lyle Who Stood For and With US! He was an active member of the Charlotte H.O.G. chapter and served as their activities chairman. He is a "Gentle Giant", tall in stature with a huge heart, that stood tall and proud. His significant other, brother and daughters have expressed their desire and extreme pleasure to have the PGR stand for their loved one. We have received the final arrangements for his services that will be here, in the Charlotte, NC. This is going to be a multi-part mission and will take an extreme amount of coordination. Please read the detailed itinerary and join us wherever you are able.

To The Family and Friends of MCPO Lyle A. Davenport...May you find peace and comfort in the knowledge that Lyle touched so many lives through the PGR and Charlotte HOG Chapter. Lyle gave selflessly of himself each time he stood on a flag line and honored a young soldier who died too young while protecting his country or a veteran who served his country many years ago. Lyle your mission is accomplished, you can stand down now and we will stand with honor for you now.

My condolences to the Davenport family. May God bless you and comfort you in this sad time. I did not know Lyle personally but have been on a mission or two with him. God has his will that it's hard to question, but one thing we know is Lyle continued to help others as he donated to 3 to help their lives improve. May you rest in peace and God Bless. God speed Mr. Lyle Davenport.

To Lyle's family, be comforted with the knowledge that he is in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
Be comforted by knowing that Lyle's last act was to save 3 other persons. Jesus said to love one another

To friends and the family of Lyle, I want you to know what an honor it was to stand the many flaglines with Lyle. When I found out about the accident on Saturday after our last mission, I was crushed to hear the news. Of course we never want to hear of any Patriot going down, but it really hurts when you hear that a friend went down after just being with him moments earlier. It was also no surprise to hear that Lyle was an organ donor. We see his giving to others had not stopped even with his passing. Now, sadly but proudly we will be standing for our friend. I don't claim to understand any of this but I trust that God needed him more than us. We will all miss you Lyle but we know you are in a better place now. Godspeed my friend

May the Lord watch over the family and friends of Lyle Davenport in their time of sorrow. Lyle, I wasn't supposed to be on that last mission.I could not ride my bike, nor could I stand for long, but I wanted to be there. I am so thankful I made it and was able to shake your hand again. You will be greatly missed, not only by your family, friends and Patriot Guard, but by the veterans and families who will not have you standing down here for them. We know you will be watching over all of them. It's what you do. It's who you are. God speed Lyle.

This has been such a difficult time in loosing a Great friend, fellow PGR Brother and a True American Hero. It was such an Honor to stand with this "Gentle Giant" on many missions with him, Jane and even his grandson, Jonathan on Lyle's last mission on Saturday. I (we) will NEVER forget how tall and proud he stood. We now have to Stand For Lyle Who Stood For and With US! May god take you in his arms and comfort you, your family and friends. You have now gone ahead of us to prepare a flag line for others in heaven. My deepest and most heart felt condolences go out to Jane, Stanley, Lyle's brother and Lyle's three daughters. May God comfort you all and help you find peace. We will ALL miss Lyle (Parrothead) Davenport! God be with you my friend!

It's so difficult to let you go

Though death's left us no other choice

We're mourning the loss of never seeing you again

Of never hearing your precious voice

It seems that in life there are certain times

Which are more than "simply unfair"

When our hearts search out for better answers

But cannot seem to find them there

And such is the case at your passing

Contemplating the briefness of your life

All the great things that you still would have done

If you'd been granted a little more time

It isn't difficult to envision the possibilities

For look at what you'd already done

The difference you'd made in so many lives

In all that you had become

Perhaps you were simply too good for this life

So God called you back to Heaven

That your life needed no further testament

Than the goodness you'd already given

    But regardless of the reason

For why so soon you had to part

We will miss you every single day of our lives

For you were the pride of our hearts!

Thank you for being our example

Inspiring us through your courage and drive

We'll cherish all the precious memories

That you lovingly created in our lives

    For truly your life reflected

A wisdom that few, so young, can see...

My heartfelt condolences go out to Jane, Lyle’s family and friends in this time of extreme sadness & sorrow.

May God touch his healing hand upon your broken hearts and provide comfort during your times of grieving for your loved one.

Lyle left a tremendous void in many lives with his loss, one that will take a long time, if ever, to fill.

I regret I never had the privilege of knowing Lyle in person and after hearing so much about this great example of a true patriot, I still feel I lost a brother.

Lyle, you obviously left a tremendous impact on everyone you met.

Thank You for your service to our great nation, to all the patriots whom you stood for and with and your generous gift of life to 3 strangers who will be forever in your debt.

Your watch here on earth is done, Stand Down Sailor, we’ll take it from here.

Honor also the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as best he can, the same cause.

I was honored to stand with Lyle on many missions, showing respect to the families of our fallen heroes and veterans. I was doubly honored to be there on his last PGR mission in Charlotte to see him stand tall and represent the Patriot Guard as he did so well. I believe Lyle will be reaching out to us to shake hands as he did that last time in Charlotte. Rest in peace Master Chief. We will stand for you as you stood for others.
