DESCRIPTION:Arlington National Cemetery\nJose J. Gonzalez\, Active Duty\, KIA\nUSA – WoT\nAlexandria\, Virginia – 09-10-19\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nOn 21 August 2019\, MSG Jose J. Gonzalez\, 35\, and MSG Luis F. DeLeon-Figueroa\, 31\, both Special Forces soldiers\, were killed in Afghanistan during combat operations in Faryab province\, located in the far northwest of Afghanistan along the border with Turkmenistan.  Both soldiers were assigned to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Eglin Air Force Base\, Florida.  They were posthumously promoted to master sergeant.\nMSG Gonzalez was a native of La Puente\, CA.  These two Green Beret deaths bring the number of US Troops killed in action in 2019 to 14\, with another 85 wounded.  The family of MSG Gonzalez has requested the Patriot Guard mount a flag-line and render honors as he arrives at Cunningham Turch FH\, from Dover AFB\, DE. on 10 September 2019.  Additionally they have asked that we escort him to his final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery on 11 September 2019.  We are indeed honored to do so.  MSG Jose J. The Patriot Guard Riders are honored to have been invited to participate in the ceremonies by establishing a Flag Line to honor SGT Harmon\, and escorting him to the dedication of his new smart home in Damascus\, MD. Our thanks go out to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation for this wonderful opportunity. SGT Harmon\, infantryman with the 82nd Airborne Division\, was serving a combat tour in Afghanistan when he was severely wounded on June 7\, 2012. SGT Harmon stepped on a pressure plate IED while on foot patrol in the Kandahar Province. He immediately lost his right leg\, and later had his left leg amputated in the hospital. SGT Harmon also suffered a traumatic brain injury. Six years after being catastrophically injured\, SGT Harmon reenlisted as a noncommissioned officer for the Division at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington\, DC. He leads\, mentors and provides inspiration to paratroopers as the Division’s liaison. They will hear the rumble in downtown Columbia as we pull into the convention center to a special parking area. We will establish a flag line at the First Responder’s Remembrance Memorial to honor the fallen heroes and comfort and assist the families as needed.\nThe families will arrive at 8:00 AM. This will be the second year for this ceremonial ride and event.\nThis event is conducted to Remembering those 344 Fire Fighters\, 72 Police Officers\, 8 Paramedics\, 55 Military Personnel and over 2500 American Citizens that lost their lives on 9-11-01.\nThe escort will consist of Law Enforcement\, First Responders and Fire Fighting apparatus from the surrounding communities\, as well as veteran motorcycle groups.\nThis year we will be escorting the GZ Flag that flew over the smoldering World Trade Center after the 9-11 attack. (FB for info @GroundZeroFlag)\nAll Groups\, Clubs and Organizations welcome to join and attend. Motorcycles not required. Motorcycles with LARGE flags greatly welcomed.\nThe escort will end at the Twiford Funeral Home in downtown Elizabeth City where we will set and maintain a flag line during the Patriot Day Celebration.\nA ceremony raising the Ground Zero Flag will commence the ceremony and be followed by the Key note speaker for this event\, Sergeant Major Gene Overstreet\, the 12th Sergeant Major of the USMC.
