SUMMARY:100th Anniversary of the US Army Transcontinental  Motor Convoy
DESCRIPTION:Memorial\n100th Anniversary of the US Army Transcontinental  Motor Convoy\nUSA\nKearney\, Nebraska – 08-28-19\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nThe Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand a flag line in honor of the arrival of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association 100th Anniversary Convoy on Wednesday morning\, August 28\, at the entrance driveway to the Classic Car Collection in Kearney at 8:00 am.\nThe convoy includes about 55 Historic Military Vehicles and will be travelling through Kearney as they retrace the original 1919 US Army’s First Transcontinental Motor Convoy route\, on the famed Lincoln Highway. The Convoy travels around 30 mph for about 120-150 miles per day and it’s first daily stop will be at the Classic Car Collection in Kearney arriving at around 8:15. They will then continue their travel along Highway 30 thru Kearney until reaching their lunch stop at the Heartland Military Museum in Lexington. Additionally\, the MVPA will present both the historical significance of the original 1919 Convoy and the historical significance of the military vehicles present on the 2019 Convoy. Finally\, as this 2019 Convoy passes through the many towns along this route\, the MVPA will take every opportunity to also say “thanks” to our Veterans in a most patriotic way!\n\nIn 1919\, Lieutenant Colonel Dwight D. Eisenhower participated in the First Army transcontinental motor convoy. The expedition consisted of 81 motorized Army vehicles that crossed the US from Washington DC to San Francisco\, a distance of 3\,251 miles in 62 days. The expedition was manned by 24 officers and 258 enlisted men. The Convoy was to test the mobility of the military during wartime conditions. As an observer for the War Department\, Lieutenant Colonel Eisenhower learned first-hand of the difficulties faced in traveling great distances on roads that were impassable\, and that resulted in frequent breakdowns of the military vehicles. These early experiences influenced his later decisions concerning the building of the interstate highway system during his presidential administration.\nThe Kearney Visitors Bureau has requested that area residents’ line 25th Street a/k/a Highway 30 a/k/a Lincoln Highway and wave as this historic convoy passed through town beginning at approximately 8:30 am.\n\n\nPRIMARY STAGING DETAILS: 08-28-19 \nStaging Time: 07:30 am \nClassic Car Collection\,\n3600 US-30 B\,\neast end of the Kearney Cabela’s Retail Store\nKearney\, Nebraska\n\n\nRide Captain: \nBilly Rayburn (308) 440-4645\n\n\nSpecial Instructions: \nPGR MEETING: 7:45 am FLAG LINE: 8:00 am.\n\nFlags & Water:\nFlags will be provided\nLarge Bike Flags will NOT be needed.\nWater WILL NOT be provided\, please bring your own.\n\n\n\nSubmitted By: Scott Knudsen \nPosition: Nebraska State Captain \n\nNote: You do not have to own/ride a motorcycle or be a veteran to join\, and membership is Free.
