SUMMARY:Dorothy Eleanor Olsen
DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission\nDorothy Eleanor Olsen\, Veteran\nUSA\, USAF\, WASP – WWII\nTacoma\, Washington – 07-29-19\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nLadies and Gentlemen we have been invited to attend the services of Lt. Dorothy Olsen at her final military honors and burial. Dorothy joined the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots program in the class of 43W4 – which meant she was part of the 4th class in 1943\, along with Alta Thomas\, our own Kelly Thomas’ mother. Dorothy was part of the Program until it disbanded in late 1944. She did stay in the military but left when there were some planes waiting to be flown on the tarmac and they wouldn’t let her fly them\, they were waiting on male pilots. The WASP were considered civilians\, although they’d been promised military status when they joined up\, until 1977 when through their lobbying Congress and the support of Senator Barry Goldwater they were finally granted their (hard earned) veteran status. After her military service Dorothy owned a large antique business in Lakewood and through that business met and befriended a gentleman that was a bomber pilot in WWII – according to her daughter whenever Dorothy and this friend got together they’d sit and swap flying stories to the exclusion of anyone else that hadn’t had their same experiences\, kind of like all veterans like to do. Dorothy traveled the world with her husband including flying to Italy to purchase a Lancia Beta coupe and driving all over Europe so she could (legally) fulfill her need for speed and excitement. Dorothy led a full life\, full with love\, friends\, experiences – her passing leaves a large void for those that knew and loved her. Let’s stand in honor of one of our Nation’s Greatest Generation – a true pioneer in so many ways.\n\n\nPRIMARY STAGING DETAILS: 07-29-19 \nStaging Time: 07:45 AM\n \nTagger’s Mini Mart & Fuel (76 station)\n6615 S. 12th St\nTacoma\, Washington 98465\n\n\nRide Captain: \nMother Hen\n206-369-1434\npgrmotherhen@gmail.com\n\nSupport Vehicle – HotWheelz\, 206-380-9429\n\n\nSpecial Instructions: \n7:45 – Riders arrive\, sign in\n8:00 – Mission Brief\n8:15 – KSU 8:30 – Flag Line in Place\n9:00 – Service commences\nThere will be special instructions given at the mission brief for the grave side services.\nWeather is expected to be in the mid to upper 70’s\, and plan for a long flag line.\n\n\nFlags & Water:\nFlags will be provided\nLarge Bike Flags will NOT be needed.\nWater will be provided.\n\n\n\nSubmitted By: Sabrina Brown \nPosition: Washington State Captain \n\nNote: You do not have to own/ride a motorcycle or be a veteran to join\, and membership is Free.
