Lawler have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present for his honorable transfer and escort as well as stand a Flag line for his committal ceremony. In November 1950\, Cpl Lawler was a member of Company M\, 3rd Battalion\, 8th Cavalry Regiment\, 1st Cavalry Division. He was reported missing in action on Nov. 2\, 1950\, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces near Unsan\, North Korea. His remains could not be recovered following the attack and he was not reported as a prisoner of war. LCDR Ellis first served his country during WWII; Enlisting at 17 years old serving as a Maintenance Technician and then in Air Traffic Control. During his service and reservist duties he attended college and upon completion\, received a Commission in 1957. LCDR Ellis was a Pilot and Navigator during the rest of his career. Flying both the A-3 Whale and A-6 Intruder\, and after deployments to Vietnam LCDR Ellis retired from the Navy in 1971\, with a total of 30 years\, 1 month and 29 days of total service to our Country. During his career he was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal\, Air Medal\, Navy Unit Commendation Medal\, American Defense Medal\, American Campaign Medal\, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal\, National Defense Service Medal\, World War II Victory Medal\, Vietnam Service Medal\, Vietnam Campaign Medal\, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation with Gallantry Cross\, Pilot/Navigator Wings. LCDR Ellis was extremely proud of his service and was a very patriotic man. LCDR Ellis’s daughter and possibly both sons will be in attendance. He started training to be a police K-9 in 2010\, specializing in tracking\, patrol\, and narcotics detection. K-9 Blitz was also certified with the (NAPCH\,) The National Association of Professional Canine Handlers in October 2010 and had been certified every year since.\nK-9 Blitz started his full-time service with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department in May of 2011\, quickly making several apprehensions and handling several high-profile cases\, including saving a life in January 2016 in sub-zero degree weather regarding a lost woman.
