Don proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from September 1963-September 1967 with the Third Battalion Fourth Marines\, receiving the Purple Heart Medal\, the Vietnam Service Medal with one star\, the Meritorious Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following time served\, Don remained active in veteran organizations as former Commander and Member of the Beaver County Special Unit\, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #862\, the Patriot Guard Riders\, V.F.W. Post #128 in Rochester and American Legion Post #0641 in Baden. Donald served our country and his community with honor\, its now our turn to stand in honor for him. He was a Operation Desert Storm/ Shield Veteran\, followed as a civil service employee at Little Rock AFB\, Arkansas and later at the Army Recruiting Office in Little Rock until his final retirement in 2013. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of MSgt. His Awards include; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon w/1 device\, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon w/ 1 device\, AF Longevity Service Award w/ 5 devices\, Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon w/1 device\, AF Training Ribbon\, AF Outstanding Unit Award w / 7 devices\, AF Good Conduct Medal w/ 5 devices\, AF Commendation Medal\, National Defense Service Medal w/1 device. Mr Maddox is survived by his wife of 46 years\, 1 daughter\, 1 brother\, 2 sisters\, 2 nephews. He loved being outside\, whether it be tending to his vegetable garden\, fishing \, hunting\, or exploring the world on his motorcycle. He was a member and former Chaplain of American Legion Post 509\, the American Legion Riders\, as well as a member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. John served his country for more than four years\, but loved ones say that service continued throughout his life.
