In late 1950\, Cpl Nemec was a Light Weapons Infantryman assigned to Company A\, 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry Regiment\, 1st Cavalry Division\, engaged in heavy fighting against the Chinese People’s Volunteer Forces (CPVF) at Turtle Head’s Bend\, near the village of Unsan\, North Korea. According to historical reports\, Cpl Nemec was Killed in Action on Nov. 2\, 1950\, CPL Nemec was awarded the Purple Heart\, Combat Infantryman’s Badge\, Korean Service Medal\, United Nation Service Medal\, National Defense Medal\, Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal\, and the Republic of Korea Service Medal. SUMMARY:World War I Monument Re-dedication Ceremony - Flag Line
DESCRIPTION:HOTH Mission\nWorld War I Monument Re-dedication Ceremony – Flag Line\nKingman\, Arizona – 06-29-19\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \n\nThe Arizona Military Order Of Devil Dog Charities\, will have a re-dedication of the WWI monument that stands in front of the Mohave County Court house in Kingman\, AZ. For those who would like to attend there will be a lunch served beginning at 11:00 AM. The monument was first erected in 1928 to honor the sacrifices of those who served in World War I.  The monument is of an American “doughboy”\, and a Navy sailor. Between the figures was a Colt 1895 “Potato Digger” machine gun. \nIn the late ’90’s the monument was vandalized and the machine gun was stolen\, also years of over spray of landscape sprinklers has left deposits of alkali and silica on the lower portions of the monument. Francis served in the US Navy from 17 July 1946 to 28 October 1947. He served on the USS LST 828; the USS Mataco (ATF-86); and the USS LSM 436. He received the World War II Victory Medal. In 1962 he was killed by a hit and run driver in California and was buried in a paupers grave. Now 60 years later the Navy has had his name engraved on an upright obelisk\, which will be placed at the Crescent Grove Cemetery in his memory. Mr. Kohlasch was the grandson and nephew of the Tigard brothers who founded Tigard Oregon. Tolleshaug. Our hero saw action in Normandy at Utah Beach\, Northern France\, Rhineland and the Ardennes. He earned the following medals\, the Silver Star\, The Bronze Star\, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster\, and the European\, African\, Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Stars. John was a Communications Officer\, a Scout and Forward Observer working with Field Artillery. Our hero was very active after his service with the 4th Army Division and the local VFW. Our Hero’s family describes John as a quite\, mellow businessman\, a gentleman’s gentleman.
