Just shy of his 21st birthday\, he was excited for the opportunity to serve his country. However\, because he was born deaf in his right ear\, he would serve the country as a cook for our troops. He was trained as all others for combat and how to handle a rifle\, but spent the majority of his service preparing his comrades with a good meal. Mr. Hernandez-Vega served in the Army until April 5th\, 1946\, when his troop was demobilized.
