DESCRIPTION:Dedication\nPFC James Roy Newberry MIA Intersection Dedication\, POW/MIA\nUSA -\, Korea\nMacon\, Georgia – 06-14-19\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nThe Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to join several other veteran support groups to take part in honoring PFC James Roy Newberry an American Hero (Uncle one of our own PGR members) at the Bethel Baptist Church\, where he and his family worshiped when he was a child.\n\nBorn June 15\, 1931\, James “Roy” Newberry\, as a young man enlisted in the US Army and went to fight for our country during the Korean War. He served as part of the Company F\, 2nd Battalion\, 223rd Infantry Regiment\, 40th Infantry Division. Engaging the enemy\, Roy was shot and wounded. His unit pulled back and his body was not recovered. Date of loss: December 8\, 1952.Through the unending efforts of friends and family\, and recognition of the POW/MIA Mission by the Macon-Bibb County Commissioners Office\, we will come together to dedicate with honor\, the POW/MIA Interchange\, and the Rising is the POW/MIA Flag. He is NOT Forgotten!\n\nWe (4 groups) will stage off-site and arrive by LEO escort\, where-in we will park upon arrival each at a different corner of the intersection. Burgett\, Veteran\nArmy – WWII\nHowell\, Michigan – 06-14-19\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nThe Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand a Flag line at the dedication designating The Howell Post Office as The Donald Burgett Post Office. Mr. Burgett served in the U.S. Army from May 1943 until December 1945\, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Donald (Don) was a member of the 101st Airborne (The Screaming Eagles) and parachuted into Normandy hours before the D Day invasion started. Don’s second jump was into the Netherlands as part of Operation Market-Garden where his unit fought for 72 days behind the German lines. After a short rest Don was again sent into combat at the Battle of the Bulge. He went on to fight with Operation Nordwind into Germany\, the Rhineland and Bavaria. Only eleven men from his unit of two hundred survived the war. After the War Don came home and worked as a contractor building homes. He was also a very successful author\, publishing four books on his experience during the war. Don was a Charter Member and past Commander of DAV Chapter 125 in Howell where he continued his lifelong passion for helping his fellow Veterans. Mr. Burgett received the following medals; EAME Theater Ribbon W/4 Bronze Stars\, Purple Heart Medal W/Oakleaf Cluster\, Bronze Star Medal\, Distinguished Unit Badge\, Bronze Arrowhead Medal\, Combat Infantry Badge\, Victory Medal.
