After the war he became a shop teacher at Oak Grove High School for many years\, sharing his knowledge and wisdom with his students. Mike called them “his kids”\, endearing himself to future generations who now mourn his loss. He was an invaluable asset to the Arkansas Patriot Guard Riders\, always ready for missions regardless of conditions or distance. Mike was an extraordinary story teller\, sharing his life with everyone. We are deeply humbled and honored to receive the invitation to stand in Honor of SP5 Mike Aeilts service. Edward A. O’Brien died on 1 June 2019 after battling cancer. He enlisted in the USMC in 1954 and was discharged as a Sgt in 1957. He went on to work for various government contractors including McDonnell Aircraft and Martin Marietta. He proudly served our nation by advancing our country’s national security efforts. In 1973 he started his charter fishing business and soon had 4 vessels. He hosted Governors\, Congressmen\, members of the Maryland General Assembly and President George W. Bush on his vessel the “Semper Fidelis.” In March of 2019\, Governor Larry Hogan bestowed the highest honor to Captain O’Brien by naming him “Admiral of the Chesapeake Bay” for committing his all too preserving Maryland’s fishing heritage and improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay. He is survived by his partner\, five children\, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. When directed\, the Riders will return the flags to the support vehicle\, be debriefed and dismissed.
