DESCRIPTION:SMSgt Charles Huston Freeburgh\, 91\nUSAAC-USAF-USAFR(RET)\nWWII\, Korea\, Vietnam Veteran\nPearl\, Mississippi\nFriday 26 August 2016\n\n\n\nState of Mississippi has lost another True Hero\, SMSgt (Ret) Charles Huston Freeburgh has passed away\, his family has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor and pay tribute to him for his dedicated service to our freedom and country. \nImmediately after graduating High School\, Charlie enlisted in the US Army and after basic training was assigned to the Army Air Corps during WW II. As a 20 year old Flight Engineer on a B-24\, German fighter planes brought down his bomber over the snow-capped mountains of Germany on 24 Feb 44. The Crew\, part of the 68th Bomb Squadron\, 44th Bomb Group of the 2nd Air Command was shot down shortly after bombing a ball bearing plant in Gotha\, Germany. Out of a crew of 10\, Charlie was one of only 4 who survived. When his POW Camp was liberated by the US Army 82nd Airborne Division on 29 May 45\, then SSgt Freeburgh weighed less than 85 pounds\, down from his original weight of 185 pounds. “I wasn’t outstanding in no way other than the fact that I did eventually make it home”\, said SMSgt Freeburgh. \nCharlie was transferred to the US Air Force at it’s beginning and remained until his retirement in 1963\, he then enlisted in the Air National Guard and retired again in July of 1972. During that period of time he also served on USAF Bombers during the Korean War and in Vietnam\, his actions\, Medals\, Citations\, Commendations and Awards are too numerous to show in this post. Dale served proudly in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic Theater of Operation.  He served from August of 1944 until September of 1945\, was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered on April 19\,1945.  Dale also was awarded the Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. Campbell\, SGT\, US Army\, who served during the Korean War. He served with A Company\, 1st Battalion\, 32nd Infantry Regiment\, 7th Infantry Division as part of the 31st Regimental Combat Team. They were deployed east of the Chosin Reservoir\, North Korea\, when they were engaged by overwhelming numbers of Chinese forces. At the end of the battle\, Sgt. Campbell could not be accounted for and was reported MIA on 2 December 1950.
