SUMMARY:Mike Melon
DESCRIPTION:All missions are hard missions\, hard on the families\, hard on the friends and yes\, hard on the ones who stand and see the hurt and grieving process so often. That being said this will be a hard mission\, even harder than most. When you know that the person taken before their time was a good person\, a person who was doing for others even while fighting the fight themselves\, it’s hard. When you know that person only a couple of months ago\, left the flag line sick to the point of retching from the chemo he was taking\, but was still there at the mission\, it’s hard. \nIt is my sad duty to tell you that our brother and fellow Patriot Guard Rider\, Mike Melon has gone on to claim his reward and is healed from that dreaded disease called cancer. His wife has requested that we stand for him as he has stood with us\, for so many. Our only answer can be a resounding YES! \nMike Melon graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary\, was a missionary in Paraguay and Greece\, and pastored churches in Maine and New Orleans\, that one during hurricane Katrina! Mike also taught at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary\, where he has earned his Doctorate in Theology. “Rev” as many of us knew him also pastored the Bare Bones Biker Church\, was PGR member\, a friend\, a biker and a good man! \nMission Details: Sunday\, 21 August 2016 \nStaging: Fred A Symmes Chapel\n100 YMCA Camp Rd. Cleveland\, SC 29635\nMap: https://goo.gl/maps/PHwbWezLDAD2 \nAssemble: 11:45 AM/1145\nBrief: 12:00 PM/1200\nFlag Line: 12:15 PM/1215 \nExecution: We will stand up the flag line immediately following the briefing for the arrival of the family and friends. Once the family is seated\, we will stand the flag line down. \nCaution: YMCA Camp Rd is in the process of being re-topped and has loose gravel on it. Due to this and the threat of inclement weather great care should be taken and consideration of caging to this mission. \nNote: Due to the proximity of the open air Chapel to the parking area\, please do not attend this mission if you can not remain for the service – cranking the bikes would be a disruption to the service. \nIt will be my honor to serve as RCIC for this mission\nJ. Every effort possible is made in planning and executing the PGR Mission statement in a manner that minimizes the inherit dangers of riding a motorcycle\, including riding in groups of all sizes and any situation. While the NCPG and its riders have a remarkable safety record in the execution of our missions\, infrequently members have been injured in unforeseen accidents. In an effort to mitigate the risk of preventable accidents\, all attendees who wish to ride in a Patriot Guard motorcycle escort or ride are asked to attend the pre-mission briefing. It will include a safety briefing\, and any unique ride information known to our RCIC that may be specific to the mission. Member safety and well-being is always a principal ongoing concern. Our RCIC’s are asked to stand-down from any mission that cannot be accomplished in relative safety or present unreasonable risk. This includes both rides and flag lines in inclement weather and conditions. It remains each individual PGR member’s responsibility to ride within their own comfort zone and be cognizant of their surroundings and skill limitations as well as any physical needs or limitations. If the ride and/or mission conditions present challenges beyond your skill\, comfort\, or needs you are expected to exercise good judgment in foregoing any planned participation.
