DESCRIPTION:The family of Major Alan Bakas has  requested the presence of The Patriot Guard Riders for Services and Military honors\n\n \n\n Major Alan Bakas  served in the Army Air corp in 1946\, where  he served as a communication specialist at Ramey AFB\, PR. He later “re-upped” and transferred to the Air Force and  went through OCS. After  attending Officer Candidate School\, OCS class of 54B\, he successfully  completed pilot/Bombardier training and spent the next 20  years as an AF pilot\, flying numerous aircraft including B-47\, U-6A\,  C-123. Alan served as a staff communication officer during his tour in  Vietnam. His last assignment was as consultant to the Joint Military  Commission in Rio de Janiero\, Brazil. He  achieved the rank of Major earning several medals and honors. Alan retired after 23 years and was honorably discharged . Alan was  the founding Commander of the Daisy Mountain VFW Post  10231 and active with the Daisy Mountain American Legion Post 128.\n \n [FONT=wf_segoe-ui_normal\, Segoe UI\, Segoe WP\, Tahoma\, Arial\, sans-serif]Alan’s wife[/FONT][FONT=wf_segoe-ui_normal\, Segoe UI\, Segoe WP\, Tahoma\, Arial\, sans-serif]\, [/FONT][FONT=wf_segoe-ui_normal\, Segoe UI\, Segoe WP\, Tahoma\, Arial\, sans-serif]Loretta  will also be interred during this service. The children said  that she always made our military or civilian quarters loving homes and provided her six children with safe and happy childhoods.  Alan and Loretta were married for 64 years. DESCRIPTION:Reverend Michael B. “Mike” Ferguson\, 77\nUS Navy Captain\, Retired\nAppomattox\, VA  \nThursday\, July 28\, 2016\n\n\n\nIt is with a heavy heart that I inform you that America has lost another of its heroes. \nThe family of Reverend Ferguson has graciously invited the Patriot Guard Riders to stand tall and silent\, at an Inurnment with Military Honors service to show honor and respect for his service and dedication to our Country. \nRev. Michael B. “Mike” Ferguson\, 77\, passed away peacefully on June 11\, 2016.  He retired as a Captain after 30 years of Naval service as a Surface Warfare Officer. During his career he served on board six ships commanding USS COOK (FF 1083). Ashore\, he commanded Naval Station Pearl Harbor\, served on major staffs\, and completed three tours in the Pentagon. He served as a logistics specialist for the Navy during the latter stages of the war in Vietnam. \nFollowing his retirement\, he answered God’s call\, entered Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1993. He was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Church on June 12\, 1993 and a Priest on December 18\, 1993. During his 17-year career he ministered with three congregations: St. Anne’s Mililani\, Hawaii; St. Anne’s Appomattox\, Virginia; and he was serving as the co-Pastor at the Church of the Holy Apostles Episcopal/Roman Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at the time of his death. \nHe is survived by his wife of 57 years\, Carolyn; his children and their families; 3 grandchildren and cousins and nephews. DESCRIPTION:The family of John R. Nieves has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.\n\nSgt. Nieves joined the Army in 1962. He did his basic training in Fort Ord. He was Sgt. in charge of the firing range. He then went to New York as an MP. He then was stationed in Panama for 3 years as a jungle expert instructor. In 1967 he was sent to Vietnam for 1 year. There he was platoon Sgt. in the 1st Cav. Division 1st of the 7th.   He received many medals including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He was discharged in 1968. He’s was 100% disabled Vet and proud of his military service.\n\nJohn enjoyed spending time with his family He enjoyed music\, dancing\, visiting the casinos\, and Zumba. \nJohn is survived by his wife Patricia\, three daughters\, two sisters\, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. \nNOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. DESCRIPTION:Ira Thomas”Tom” Taylor\nWWII\, Korean War\, Vietnam\, Retired USAF\nRuston\, La\, 07-28-2016\n\n\n\nAfter graduating High school in 1943 He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps\, Trained as a navigator in B-24 Liberators and received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. Stationed In New Guinea\, he flew combat missions in the 5th Air force\, 90th Bomb group\, 319 squadron until the war ended in 1945. After the war he remained in the Army(later U.S. Air Force) reserves. In 1950\,Tom was recalled by the U.S. Airforce for the Korean War and flew 50 combat missions as a 1st Lt navigator/bombardier in B-26 Invaders. After the Korean War he went through Pilot training and became a flight instructor in the T-33 Shooting Star jet trainers and was promoted to the rank of Captain. After several years as a flight instructor he was promoted to Major. In 1966 he was deployed to Vietnam and was stationed at Ben Hoi AFB he was then promoted to LT. Colonel. After returning from Viet Nam he was stationed in Kansas and Izmir\, Turkey. He retired from active service in 1971. During active duty he received many medals including The Air Medal\, The Distinguished Flying Cross\, and The Bronze Star. Austin and later graduated from University of North Texas in 1950. He went to work for Brown and Root Construction in Houston\, later becoming Vice President in the Power Division\, helping build two nuclear power plants\, Comanche Peak at Glen Rose and Houston Power and Light nuclear plant in Bay City. The family of Tommy Gray Maynard has requested that we stand with Honor and Respect at his memorial service on Thursday\, 28 July 2016.\n\nA Virginia Beach native Mr. Maynard\, 73\, was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving two tours in Vietnam in the early sixties as Corporal in Force Recon. He then worked as a high voltage electrician for the Navy Base\, becoming active in the Union and working his way up to being an International Union Representative for 25 years. DESCRIPTION:TSgt Herbert Fritz\, 87\nU.S. Air Force Retired\nSpring Hill\, FL\nThursday\, 28 July 2016\n\n\n\nThe family of TSgt Herbert Fritz has graciously requested the Patriot Guard Rider’s presence as they show their final respects and lay their loved one to rest. \nTSgt Fritz served his Country in the U.S. Air Force and performed duties as an Aircraft Mechanic (Turboprop Propulsion) and a Fire Fighter. \nTSgt Fritz spent his first 14 years of military service in SAC (Strategic Air Command) as an Aircraft Mechanic\, and then finished his career as a Fire Fighter with an Air Rescue Squadron in Westhampton\, NY. \nUpon completion of his military service\, TSgt Fritz received an Honorable Discharge and awarded the Army of Occupation Medal Japan\, WWII Victory Medal (even though his service was post WWII)\, AFR Meritorious Service Ribbon\, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon and an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.  No additional military related information is available at this time. \nDuring his post military service\, TSgt Fritz work for and retired from Pan American Airlines after 25 years and served his community at Lakeland Volunteer Fire Department in NY. Vice Commander at VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill\, FL.\, and donated much of his time at Day Star Life Center\, Weeki Wachee\, FL. \nThere will be an Interment Service immediately following the Funeral Service at the same location.
