DESCRIPTION:Patriots\,\nWe  have been requested by the wife of Roger DeWayne Hall\, U.S. Army\, to stand for her  Hero. \nMr. Hall enlisted into the  Army following high school.  He  entered active duty on August 27\, 1970 and served honorably until November 11\,  1973. His tour included Germany\, Vietnam and Fort Hood\, Texas.   \nMr.  Hall served in an armored cavalry unit\, and his job was to put the tracks back  together as they were blown up. Additionally\, he served as a gunner atop the  tank. On a lighter side\, according to his wife\, he had a tiny wild monkey  befriend him that hung out with him in Vietnam for months.   \nWhile  serving Mr. Hall earned the following medals: \nNational  Defense Service Medal\nRepublic  of Vietnam Campaign Medal\nSharpshooter  Medal (Rifle)\nVietnam  Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star\nCombat  Infantry Badge \nMr.  Hall was a member of the Co A\, 1st Battalion 81st Armor\, 1st Cavalry  Division\, U.S. Army Forces Command. \nMr.  Hall’s wife said that he spoke of his service proudly.  \nPlease  join us in honoring this True American Hero! \nMission  Details… \nDate:  Friday July 22nd\,  2016\nStaging:  10:15 AM\nBriefing:  10:30 AM\nLocation:  We will stage on the entrance road to  the cemetery at the second left turn after entering the main gate off of  Statesville Blvd.    \nMap  to Location:  http://mapq.st/1vqc6Fb \nPlease  pull over to the right as far as possible to allow traffic to pass. DESCRIPTION:The family of James Tatum has requested the Patriot Guard to pay honors to this WWII Hero\, it will be our Honor to do so. \nThis request came in thru Bob and Barbara Johnson two of our PGR family who have now relocated to Texas.  \nMany of us had the honor of meeting Doris at a Celebration for Veterans last year. \nJim survived many battles during WWII. He was assigned to the 55th Battalion Seabees. \nIn the North\, Central\, South and Southwest Pacific areas\, the Seabees built 111 major airstrips\, 441 piers\, 2\,558 ammunition magazines\, 700 square blocks of warehouses\, hospitals to serve 70\,000 patients\, tanks for the storage of 100\,000\,000 gallons of gasoline\, and housing for 1\,500\,000 men. In construction and fighting operations\, the Pacific Seabees suffered more than 200 combat deaths and earned more than 2\,000 Purple Hearts. They served on four continents and on more than 300 islands. \nJim was the “last surviving member of the 55th Battalion Seabees”. He truly was one of the “Greatest Generation” and carried that distinction proudly. \nJim and his lovely wife Doris would have celebrated their 70th wedding Anniversary one day after his death. \nJim is survived by his wife of 70 yrs. DESCRIPTION:The family of Louis Russo has invited the Patriot Guard to stand a flag line in honor of his life and service to our country. \nShortly after high school Louie joined the US Navy where he proudly served for twelve years.  His first duty station was aboard the USS Gallant\, a Navy Minesweeper at Treasure Island\, CA.  The ship’s motto “Iron men on wooden ships” was very appropriate for Louie.  He then served a shore duty tour in Perth\, Australia\, where he learned to “swim with the sharks.”  During the first Gulf War Louie served aboard the USS Reuben James\, a Guided Missile Frigate\, in the Persian Gulf with port calls in Kuwait\, Bahrain\, Qatar and the UAE. The Navy then assigned him to hazardous duty as Chief Engineer on ocean going tugs at the Concord Naval Weapons Station in CA\, guiding ammunition ships in and out of San Francisco Bay.  Louie was very proud of his military service and a staunch supporter of our Veterans and our Flag. \nAfter leaving the Navy Louie joined the US Merchant Marine\, continuing his maritime career. DESCRIPTION:The family of Mr. George E. Sodam has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor his outstanding military service. \nGeorge was a World War II U.S. Army veteran\, having enlisted on May 4\, 1943\, and being honorably discharged on December 1\, 1945. \nHe received many decorations\, including four overseas service bars\, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with two bronze battle stars\, a good conduct medal\, and WWII Victory medal.  Mr. Sodam was a member of the 706th Petroleum Distribution Engineers\, constructing and operating the fuel pipeline running from India\, across Burma\, and into China\, which supported both the allied ground and air personnel. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1739\, Belleville\, IL\, #242398. SUMMARY:Cadet Thomas M. Surdyke
DESCRIPTION:The Family of U. S. Military Academy West Point Cadet Thomas Michael  Surdyke (18 yrs.) had requested the Patriot Guard to Escort in a Memorial Ride  to the Memorial Service of Their Loved One. \nCadet Thomas Michael Surdyke (18 yrs.)\nU. S. Military Academy\, West Point\, Class of 2019\nCompany “B”\, 4th. Regiment (Sandhurst Team) \nCadet Surdyke had just completed his Plebe year at the Academy.  Just  prior to continuing his training this summer at West Point he was enjoying some  well deserved recreation in South Hampton Beach\, Long Island\, NY.  It was  then (June 28th\, 2016) that Thomas entered the water in a attempt to save  another person caught in a rip tide. Tragically\, Thomas did not survive his rescue  attempt.  Again\, thinking of others\, Thomas was on Life Support as a Organ  Donor to offer a life saving difference to others.  The person he was attempting to save survived. \nOn July 4th\, 2016 (His 19th. Birthday) Cadet Thomas M. Surdyke  was Laid to Rest at U.S. Military Academy Post Cemetery in West Point\, NY.   Thomas was awarded  “The Soldiers Medal” posthumously.  This Medal is  awarded to a Member of the Armed Forces of the United States who distinguishes  himself / herself  by Heroism not involving actual conflict with a enemy. \nCadet Thomas M. Surdyke is the Son of Timothy and Janice Surdyke of Festus\,  MO.
