DESCRIPTION:Confirmed Mission\nJohn Joseph Walsh \nU.S. Army Veteran – WWII\nNeenah\, WI\nMonday\, July 11\, 2016\n\n\nJohn Joseph Walsh\, age 93\, of Neenah passed away on Wednesday evening\, July 6\, 2016.  Jack was born in 1923 in Appleton and after he graduated from Appleton West High School in 1941\, he continued his education at Lawrence University\, then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps.  Jack applied to be a pilot but failed the vision test and was sent to Brigham Young University for training then was assigned to the infantry and was sent overseas to serve as Platoon Sgt. with Patton’s 3rd Army.  He was awarded three battle stars\, a bronze star\, and a combat infantry badge for his service.  Jack was honorably discharged in December of 1945 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. \nJack and his wife Betty were the only married couple (both military – she was in the Coast Guard) to fly to Washington D.C. in 2010 aboard the Old Glory Honor Flight to see their memorial.
