It will include a safety briefing\, and any unique ride information known to our RCIC that may be specific to the mission.  Member safety and well-being is always a principal ongoing concern\, our RCIC’s are asked to stand-down from any mission that cannot be accomplished in relative safety or unreasonable risk.  This includes both rides and flag lines in inclement weather and conditions.  It remains each individual PGR member’s responsibility to ride within their own comfort zone and be cognizant of their surroundings and skill limitations as well as any physical needs or limitations. Myers\nU.S. Marine Corps Veteran\nA Vietnam Veteran\n30 June 2016\n\n\nThe Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to escort Richard Henry Myers and his family to Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery\, Cheltenham\, MD\, the site of his final resting place\, on 30 June 2016.  We are honored to do so. \nMr. Myers\, age 69\, of Mechanicsville\, MD\, died on 19 June 2016 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.  After  High School\, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam\,  where he served as a radio operator and forward observer.  After returning home\, he worked as an auto mechanic\, and later went into business for himself with Snap-On-Tools.  He spent 27 years as field manager with the company.  He was a top salesman\, and retired in 2009.  He loved restoring cars\, riding his motorcycle and traveling with his wife.  He  was a member of the Maryland Patriot Guard\, and was very proud to be a  part of the Veterans Day parade every year\, when he rode his motorcycle  to the Vietnam War Memorial to pay respect to his fallen brothers.  Richard was loved and respected by his family\, friends and his community. SUMMARY:LTC Donald Schaetzel\, USA\, WWII
DESCRIPTION:The family of Donald Schaetzel as invited the Patriot Guard to stand a flag line in honor of his life and service to our country. \nDonald served in the US Army.  Donald was born in North Dakota and was raised by his mother during the depression. He later attended North Dakota State University on an Army ROTC scholarship. There he met his future wife\, and she never left his thoughts since that moment. He served as an officer in World War II with the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division\, C Company. His unit was a part of Operation Nordwind during the Battle of the Bulge and later was the liberating force of the Dachau concentration camp. His Military Honors include three Bronze Stars with Valor\, two Purple Hearts and Presidential Unit Citation. After the war he remained in the Army Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.  When he returned home\, Donald graduated from NDSU with an Engineering Degree. He married his college sweetheart\, Jackie\, where they eventually made their home in Wayzata\, Mn. DeWitt\, 95\nUS Army WWII\, Korean War\nMcMinnville\, OR\n30/JUN/16[/FONT][FONT=&amp]\n[/FONT]\n\n[FONT=&amp]\nLadies  and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders\, we have been requested by  the family to stand for Retired Lieutenant Colonel Leonard C. DeWitt\,  95.  LTC DeWitt served with the 41st “Sunset” Division.  While in New  Guinea\, DeWitt used every weapon he could get his hands on\, including  his helmet\, to go after the enemy.  He went above and beyond and showed  “extraordinary heroism and coolness under fire” earning a nomination  from commanders for a Medal of Honor.  For unknown reasons he was  awarded a Distinguished Service Cross – the Army’s second highest  honor.  He was recalled to service for the Korean War where he earned a  Purple Heart.  He returned to active duty a third time and did  intelligence work in Europe\, retiring in 1965.  New MOH nomination  paperwork has been submitted and is awaiting a determination.
