Every effort possible is made in planning and executing the PGR Mission statement in a manner that minimizes the inherit dangers of riding a motorcycle\, including riding in groups of all sizes and any situation. While the NCPG and its riders have a remarkable safety record in the execution of our missions\, infrequently members have been injured in unforeseen accidents. In an effort to mitigate the risk of preventable accidents\, all attendees who wish to ride in a Patriot Guard motorcycle escort or ride are asked to attend the pre-mission briefing. This includes both rides and flag lines in inclement weather and conditions. It remains each individual PGR member’s responsibility to ride within their own comfort zone and be cognizant of their surroundings and skill limitations as well as any physical needs or limitations. He was not someone the world would mourn as a whole. But they should\, because Davis was a hero to all of us who knew him. He was the quiet kind of person that went through life doing things for other people without making a show of it. \nDavis was diagnosed with a terminal disease. He left us on Tuesday afternoon. \nHe joined the Army in 1963 and stayed until 1969. He was proud to have served in the 101st Airborne. He went to Vietnam in 1965 where he was wounded in action. \nAmong his military awards were: Purple Heart\, Vietnam Service Medal\, Parachute Badge\, Combat Infantryman Badge\, Expert Rifleman\, and National Defense Service Medal. \nDavis was a long time member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He took me to my first mission in 2006. He was also the ‘founding father’ and first Riders Director of the American Legion Riders at Post 6 in Columbia. \nDavis and Mary were married for 38 years. She has honored the PGR by inviting us to stand for him and to escort him to his final resting place. We will be proud to do so. \nMISSION DETAILS: \nMonday\, June 20\, 2016 \nStage – 1030 – Shives Funeral Home\, 7600 Trenholm Rd Ext.\, Columbia\, SC\, 29223 \nMAP: https://goo.gl/maps/msRgD2aeSPN2 \nBrief – 1040 – Following the briefing\, we will form a flag line until 1230.
