William Silas Smith

ABOUT THE MISSION:
In the summer of 1950 Cpl. Smith was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported missing on Sept. 1, 1950 after an assault along the Naktong River, Yongsan, South Korea.He was declared deceased as of Dec. 31, 1953. On June 4, 2019 the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced that Cpl. Smith was officially accounted for through dental and anthropological analysis and circumstantial and material evidence and he would be returning home to Georgia on August 15th. The remaining family of Cpl. Smith has asked the Patriot Guard Riders to stand and ride in his honor.
