ABOUT THE MISSION:
On Sunday May 31, 2020 a funeral service to honor Mr. William H. Higgins will be held at Durfee Funeral Home . Mr. Higgins is a US Army Veteran who served in Vietnam 1970-71. Mr. Higgins, who was born on March 25, 1949, passed away on May 24, 2020 at the age of 71 at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness The Vermont PGR has been requested to attend the funeral service as well as provide escort to the Metowee Cemetery in Pawlet Vermont.CASTLETON – Bill Higgins, 71 of Castleton died peacefully, with his wife by his side, on Sunday May 24, 2020 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness.He was born on March 25, 1949 in Rutland the son of Henry O. and Helen (O’Rourke) Higgins.Mr. Higgins grew up in West Rutland graduating from the West Rutland High School in 1969. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with the 20th Engineer Brigade in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1972.He married the love of his life on May 17, 1986 in Castleton. They were soulmates and best friends.Mr. Higgins was employed at Metromail for 35 years until his retirement in 2007.Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle, collecting giraffes, and being out in nature. He loved all of his furbabies through the years, especially his dog Marley. Bill was loved for his wit & sense of humor. He was active in veterans affairs, attending the Fair Haven POW/MIA Thursday night vigil for many years.He was a life member of the of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1, a member of Castleton American Legion Crippen-Fellows Post #50, also Harley Owner’s Group and a former active member of several motorcycle clubs.

Staging @ the Shaws parking lot at 0115 hrs Sunday 31 May 2020 Briefing @ 0130 hrs KSU @ 0135 hrs We will leave Shaws and head over to the funeral home ( 5-10 minutes away )There will be a service inside for William at the home. It is expected that the service should conclude around 0230 Hrs.We will have a short flagline at the entrance to the home using the collapsible flags We will have a short flagline as the family exits the building We will head out to the cemetery in Pawlet ( about 25 minutes ) We will have the flagline with tall flags at the cemetery. Please follow all CDC guidelines for social distancing and face covering while attending this Honor Mission.The weather is forecast to be sunny and 66 with a NW wind 8-10.
