U.S. Navy WWII Veteran
Montgomery, AL
Saturday, 02 September 2016
Fellow PGR Riders,
It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that America has lost another true American hero from history’s greatest generation of heroes. The family of Seaman Second Class Wiley Abner Phillips, Jr. has requested Patriot Guard Riders to stand in honor of their hero.
Mr. Phillips is the father-in-law of our own PGR Ride Captain, Mike “Corvet” Robinson. S2C Phillips’ patriotism and desire to serve our great nation was demonstrated by his joining the Navy at age 17 after he convinced his mother to sign for him so he could join. He served from 1945 to 1946 pulling highly dangerous duty in the interior tanks of Navy warships as they were being repaired and prepped to return to sea. He was discharged at the end of the war in 1946 before he could get to sea himself.
Patriot Guard Riders will stand in honor of his service during visitation at the Leak Memory funeral home. Immediately following the visitation we will escort S2C Phillips and his family to his final role call in Greenwood cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
