Wesley first served in the US Navy from 2 December 1974 to 23 December 1974 and was Honorably Discharged as a Seaman Recruit (1). A few years later\, he joined the US Army and served from 7 December 1981 to 27 July 1982 and was again Honorably Discharged\, this time as a Private 2nd Class (E2). He earned the Army Service Ribbon.
