AFTER ACTION REPORT: Wayne Simmons, US Navy WWII Veteran, Sapulpa, OK

Thursday, 25 July was a warm and sunny Oklahoma day. The PGR staged and briefed at Green Hill Cemetery Veterans Memorial. Today we were honoring a WWII Veteran by performing Military Honors and placing him with his wife. This was a private Interment for Wayne’s daughter, her husband and several “Bozo” friends. (The Bozo’s is a group of older gentlemen who gather each morning to share a cup of coffee and the previous days events). Flags had been posted next to the Veterans Memorial, the flag was draped across Mr. Simmons cremains on a table under a large shade tree. Daughter and friends were seated in lawn chairs provided by the PGR. The PGR riders were standing a Flag Line surrounding the location. As the ceremony began the flag was unfolded and held open as Taps were played. The flag was folded and presented to Mr. Simmons daughter. A Thank you was given, the plaque and Invocation were read and presented to the daughter. A Final Salute was given and participated in by all (including a 93 year old WWII Veteran with a proud salute). The PGR then took Wayne Simmons cremains and placed them in the wall with his wife. After many hugs and tears, the flags were retrieved and prepared for the next mission. The PGR were dismissed.

Thank you, to the Simmons family for inviting the PGR to Honor this WWII Hero. Thank you to the many PGR riders (most riders this was their second mission of the day) that took time out of their day to “Stand and Honor” this hero. We also wish to welcome two new riders for being here today.

“Rest in Peace” Wayne Simmons, US Navy WWII Veteran, your mission is complete, you are gone, but your service to this Great Nation will never be forgotten.

Respectfully submitted:
