After Mission Report – 16 May 2019 – PVT Wayne Eugene Nelson, USA Vietnam Veteran. Broken Arrow/FGNC, Oklahoma
Five Patriots joined at Hayhurst Funeral Home to accompany PVT Wayne Eugene Nelson, USA Vietnam Veteran, to his final resting place at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. We held a short brief to explain the mission, route and concluded with a moment of silence for all Gold, Silver and Blue Star families and those serving home and abroad. We then formed around the coach and began the accompaniment to Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
We were greeted at Fort Gibson by other PGR members who had staked flags and stood a respect line as the hero was transferred to the Committal Shelter. A large group of family and friends were there to greet us as well. The USA Honor Guard presented Military Honors followed by the PGR presentation of plaque and invocation. We then presented a final salute to our hero. The Pastor, himself a Navy veteran, gave some inspirational words honoring both PVT Nelson’s service to our country as well as acknowledging the sacred ground of the National Cemetery and those that repose there.
We thank the Nelson family for allowing us to join in this celebration and to those Patriots that gave of their time to show respect of our fallen brother. Most of all, thank you PVT Wayne Eugene Nelson. Your service to our great country will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Dan “Big D” Koehling
