USN – WWII
Wentzville, Missouri – 21 Apr 2018
ABOUT THE MISSION:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, it is with great sadness that we have lost another fallen hero from the “Greatest Generation”. The family of Virgil L. Morris has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to stand a flag line of honor and respect. It will be our honor to do so. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the chapel service at the funeral home. We will then escort their loved one to his final resting place in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Before enlisting in the Navy, hero Morris worked at the St. Louis Shipyard constructing ships for WWII. He was drafted into the Navy and served on the USS Ajax, a tender ship. He was a welder and tended to the boiler system of his ship. His ship was the only one of 14 vessels which survived a violent typhoon which took place toward the end of WWII. He was discharged from the United States Navy in November of 1945. He earned the rank of Petty Officer Second Class and was a Fireman Second Class.
Thank you, Mr. Morris, from a grateful nation. Your faithful dedication to serve the United States of America is deeply appreciated, and will never be forgotten.
