DESCRIPTION:MoMM1C Victor “Vito” Marinelli\nUS Navy WWII Veteran\nDarien\, IL\n16 June 16\n\n\n\nMotor Machinists Mate Marinelli\, proudly honorably served our country in the US Navy. As part of The Pacific Fleet he served among others aboard USS Wasp (CV-7) was a United States Navy aircraft carrier commissioned in 1940 and lost in action in 1942. On Tuesday\, 15 September 1942\,A spread of six Type 95 torpedoes were fired at Wasp at about 14:44 from the tubes of the B1 Type submarine I-19. Wasp put over her rudder hard to starboard to avoid the salvo\, but it was too late. 193 men had died and 366 were wounded during the attack.
