Veterans An Evening of Honor – Remembering America’s Heroes,
WWII, Korea, Vietnam, WoT

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders, we have been invited to stand for Veterans An Evening of Honor – Remembering America’s Heroes. This year at their annual dinner before the Living History Day Program in the Portland Metro Area where they will introduce over 8,500 High School students to approximately 1,500 veterans. Living History Days this year are November 4-8, 2018 at Gervais High School, Chemawa Indian Boarding School, & Reynolds High School. This year’s Honorees are numerous and some are listed by conflict below.
WWII Veterans
  •     Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. Alex Jefferson, WWII, EX-POW, Purple Heart Tudor Davis, Navy, WWII, USS Halibut submarine survivor, One of two veterans who served on the Halibut still living, depthed chargered for over 4 hours.
  •    Marcella LeBeau , Army Nurse Corps, WWII, D-Day at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France , to the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium
  •    Jack Owens, Air Corps, WWII, B-17, Top Turret gunner, 33 missions
  •    Desmond Doss Jr., Son of Desmond Doss Sr., Army, WWII, Medal of Honor, “Hacksaw Ridge”, The Movie
  •    Jim Belcher, Air Force, Jim is the son of a USS Indianapolis survivor and speaks to students in Virginia about the incredible story of the survivors of the sinking of the Indianapolis.
Korean War Veterans
  •    Bill Chisholm, Army, Korean War, Two Purple Hearts( 1st at 16 years old, 2nd at 17 years old) , Chosin Few Oregon Chapter – Chapter President
  •    Don Loudner, Army, Korean War, National Commander of the American Indian Veterans Association Sioux Warrior from South Dakota Vietnam War Veterans
  •    Major General Raymond Fred Rees, Army, Vietnam, 17 years Adjutant General for State of Oregon, just retired as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Training, Readiness and Mobilization at the Pentagon. Introduced by Lt. General Russell Davis
  •    Len Kauffman, Army, Vietnam, Helicopter pilot, 1964 and 1965 All- American Wrestler, OSU Beavers, Ex-Head Wrestling Coach at Portland State University
  •    Michael Coon, Army, Vietnam , Muskogee Creek veteran, from Oklahoma. Mike is the Son of Phillip Coon, Army, WWII, Bataan Death March Survivor, Ex-Pow of the Japanese and Father of Michael Coon Jr., Army, Afghanistan, (Michael Jr. Committed Suicide in September 2017) and the Stewart of Mission 22’s National Memorial “War at Home”
Afghanistan & Iraq War Veterans
  •    Percy Piestawa from Arizona representing her daughter, Lori Piestawa, Pima veteran, Army, Iraq. Lori was the 1st Native-American women killed in action in the military history of the United States. She was best friends with Jessica Lynch, who was captured and rescued. Percy’s Husband, Terry, Army, Vietnam, passed last year from Agent Orange related cancer. Lori’s son, Brandon is coming also.
  •    John Steinbaugh, Army, Special Forces Medic, Bosnia,Afghanistan, Iraq, 14 total tours, 3 Bronze Stars, 3 Purple Hearts
  •    Chris Spense, Army, Special Forces, Afghanistan, Horse Soldier, Movie “12 Strong”, from Tennessee Please join us as we pay our respects and honor for their service to our nation.
