Franklin, Tennessee – 10-11-20
ABOUT THE MISSION:
The story of the last mission of Major Troy Gilbert will be presented in his honor by his widow and her new husband, a retired Air Force Colonel.
Major Gilbert was killed during a mission in Iraq while protecting the crew of a downed AH-6 chopper with low-pass gunfire from his F-16.
During a second pass his jet crashed and his body was taken as a trophy by al Qaeda fighters and continually moved to prevent recovery by US forces. Major Gilbert was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor for his actions.
On two occasions portions of his remains were recovered and buried at Arlington Cemetery. It took 10 years for his remains to be fully recovered and returned home on Oct 3, 2016.
