Mission Complete:July 16 2019, SPC4 Tommy Parrish, USA Vietnam Veteran,FD (Ret), Shawnee,OK.
On Tuesday there were 5 Patriot Guard Riders on 4 bikes who attended the mission to Honor the Military Service of US Army Vietnam Veteran SP4 Tommy Parrish at the Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee, OK.
The area surrounding the Funeral Home was staked, and the American Flag flew proudly in the light breeze as family and friends arrived.
The briefing was held, followed by a moment of silence for the Blue, Silver & Gold Star families, POWs and MIAs. A prayer asking comfort for the grieving family, a safe mission, and protection for our military personnel engaged in the Global War on Terror was also said.
The PGR stood the flag line, holding the Army Flag and American Flag by the entry door, and manned the doors as family and friends arrived for the service. When the service started, PGR members returned the flags to the flag vehicle.
At the conclusion of the service, PGR members stood a Respect Line as the Hero was moved from the chapel to the coach. With the able assistance of the Shawnee Fire Dept., PGR accompanied the Hero, family and friends to the Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee, OK.
Upon Arrival the Riders stood another Respect Line as the Hero was moved from the coach to the grave site by family members acting as pall bearers.
The VFW Post #1317 gave a 3 round volley, played Taps then the Army Honor Guard folded the flag and presented it to the spouse.
The minister said a few words then gave his prayer. The RCIC thanked the family for allowing us to celebrate the life of their Hero, then The PGR Plaque was read as well as the PGR Invocation and presented to the wife of our Hero.
Thank you to all of my fellow Patriot Guard Riders for attending this mission. Your presence made a difference to this family. Most of all, thank you SP4 Tommy Parrish, for your service to this great nation. Rest in Peace soldier, your mission is complete, and you will not be forgotten.
Respectfully,
Jeff “Poppa Bear” Huff
