Commander Michael Hoag\, with a small Committee of post members has been at the task of establishing such a memorial\, and will unveil a substantial memorial stone which will preserve the memory of a local Soldier for Gallantry in placing the colors of his regiment on the fort. \nSgt Archer\, Company E\, 96th New York Infantry\, was killed in action in The Siege of Richmond in the fall of 1864 at the Battle of Fort Harrison\, Virginia. \nHe was born and raised near present-day Fort Ann\, and there is a small stone at the Veterans Park in the village of Fort Ann. The VFW committee explored options for a permanent marker\, which included research of several cemeteries in the area and came to a consensus that the most appropriate location was the American Legion plot at Pineview Cemetery in Queensbury on Quaker Road. \nThe Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest medal award for Valor in action against an enemy Force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the armed forces of the United States. The formal unveiling of this memorial stone will include Civil War reenactors\, a flower and wreath-laying ceremony by Local Scouts\, remarks from our Congresswoman\, Elise Stefanik\, Senator Betty Little and more.
