Dean C. Gray, Veteran
USN – WWII
Albany, New York – 28 Mar 2017
ABOUT THE MISSION:
The family of Mr. Dean Carver Gray, a “Greatest Generation” United States Navy veteran, has requested Patriot Guard Rider presence at his military honors funeral services.
Narrative:
Mr. Dean Gray enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. After receiving training at USNTS Sampson in New York, he attended training schools at Davisville Naval Construction Battalion Center, R.I. and Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme in California. Upon completion of training, Dean was deployed as a United States Navy Seabee, and served in Okinawa from August 1944 to May 1946. He was Honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class and was awarded the American Theater Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal.
He then worked for GE in Schenectady, NY for 37 years in the Generator Division. Dean’s greatest accomplishment was his family, and he was a role model to all of them. Dean was a very positive, optimistic person, who never complained or felt sorry for himself. Even during his final difficult days he was more concerned about others.
The Patriot Guard Riders will stand proudly, rendering dignity, honor and respect for the life and service of Mr. Dean Carver Gray, proud United States Navy WWII Veteran.
