Howard Ross, Veteran
USA – WWII
North Tonawanda, New York – 27 Oct 2017

ABOUT THE MISSION:

We have been requested to stand in honor of another WWII Hero. Howard Ross of North Tonawanda passed away on October 23rd at the age of 94. Mr. Ross served Active Duty in the US Army from 1943-1946, including over 26 months in the Pacific Theater. His MOS was 518-Ground Observer, and he served under the command of the US Army Air Forces with the 558th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion in the Central Burma-India areas. The unit was responsible for going out beyond the front lines to spot enemy aircraft with a recent invention called “radar.” I would recommend you search Mr. Ross’s name in the Buffalo News archives to read about his amazing experiences. Mr. Ross was Honorably Discharged on 14 January 1946 with the rank of PFC, and was awarded: Army Good Conduct Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/2 Campaign Stars; WWII Victory Medal.
