His aircraft was shot down over Germany 13 Oct. 44 and was taken prisoner. He was a POW until the end of the war. He was truly a member of the “Greatest Generation”. \nAfter the war\, hero SOMMERS went to college and became an Optomertrist for many years. He owned the Vision Clinic in Springfield for many years.
