ABOUT THE MISSION:

Wilson, Patrick Captain Patrick Ronald “Shorty” Wilson, 51, of Whispering Pines, was killed in a traffic accident Monday, October 30, 2017 while on assignment in Daegu, Korea. He was born June 30, 1966 in Detroit, Michigan to Christine Jepsen and the late Gary Wilson. Wilson faithfully served his country with 21 years of active duty service in the United States Army, first enlisting in 1984. His passion and love for his country compelled him to re-enlist in 2003, following a 12-year break in service. In 2007, he completed Officer Candidate School followed by Military Police Basic School in 2008. In 2010, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Intelligence Studies from America Military University. During Wilson’s 21 years of service, his career took him from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and finally to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii and many places in between. In addition to Johnston Atoll, a one-square-mile island located 860 miles southwest of Hawaii, Wilson was stationed in Germany for three years as well as deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. As a member of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency’s (DPAA) Asia-Pacific Division, Wilson’s latest mission had taken him to Korea where he was returning the remains of our fallen. His brave service earned him various medals and skill badges, including a Bronze Star Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal and 8 Army Commendation Medals. Wilson was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He enjoyed flipping houses, transforming them into homes. He also enjoyed playing poker, drinking craft beer and Starbucks coffee. He was honored to be a member of the Masonic Lodge #484 of Southern Pines. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
