George served in the US Army   from June 23\, 1943 to February 3\, 1946 as a Light Wheeled Truck Driver   in the 13th Division Airborne Paratroopers. During his time in service   he served in the European Campaign of WWII in Central Europe. He earned  a  Glider Badge\, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal\,  the  American Theater Service Medal\, a Good Conduct Medal and the World  War II  Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Tec4.
