AAR 31 May 2019 SPC Stanley Louis Dotson, Jr. USA, Desert Storm/Desert Shield Veteran Elgin, Ok.
On a warm, dry and rare windless day at Fort Sill National Cemetery 10 Patriots on 8 bikes/trikes and one cage gathered to honor the service of SPC Stanley Louis Dotson, Jr. US Army, Desert Storm/Desert Shield Veteran.
We flagged the shelter with American flags lining the sidewalk. A US Army service flag between and slightly behind two American flags were placed near the flowerbed at the shelters entrance. We then rode back to the visitors building to join the others.
Friends of our hero had already started to trickle in as we conducted the briefing and soon swelled to one of the largest services I’ve ever attended. Because of construction at the cemetery, we had to turn left from the visitors building and go directly to the shelter. As the riders made their way through the shelters drive and back to the main road we could see the line of slow moving vehicles still extended far past the visitors building and towards the main gate….SPC Dotson was obviously well thought of by many people.
The Military honor detail did not wait for friends to make their way to the shelter and carried SPC Dotson’s’ urn in as soon as the wife exited the family car. As such we did not get to stand a flag line for our hero. The preacher however did wait for all to get to the shelter before starting the eulogy. He then shared SPC Dotson’s favorite scripture and talked of his hobbies and love for his family.
As the military honors began TAPS were played, the flag folded and presented to SPC Dotson’s wife. The PGR Plaque, Invocation and meaning of the folded flag were presented and the service concluded.
I would like to thank the patriots who gave of their time to honor our hero, the family for allowing us to share this day with them, the team at FSNC for their professionalism in all that they do. But mostly our thanks must go to SPC Stanley Louis Dotson, Jr. for his service to this great country, Stand down and rest, your mission here is complete.
Respectfully
Billy (5 Dollar) Hope
