That’s what the son of United States Navy veteran James Henry Hill told me on Wednesday evening. He couldn’t tell me a lot about his Daddy’s service in World War II because he never talked about it. He knew that Electrician’s Mate Hill served primarily in the Pacific aboard a LST, a transport capable of off loading armored vehicles directly on a beach. We know that Mr. Hill received several commendations including the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
We also know that this family is hurting in a way that most never experience. Mr. Hill died on Tuesday. As the family was planning his funeral, Mr. Hill’s wife of 70 years, Helen, died on Wednesday. The funeral on Friday will now be a double funeral. I cannot imagine losing Father and Mother within 24 hours but that’s what happened to this family.
We cannot heal that sort of pain but at least we can show them that someone acknowledges that Mr. Hill’s service was important to us. We can come and say ‘thank you’ to the old Sailor who just didn’t talk about it.

Weather for this mission will be an issue. Please feel free to arrive in an enclosed vehicle.
IF you will be on 2 wheels despite the weather, please contact your Ride Captain. The family has requested an escort from the family home to the funeral home. If there are motorcycles available we will endeavor to honor that request but do not jeopardize your own safety.
James Henry Hill, even though he didn’t talk about it, is a part of the reason we have enjoyed safety and security for most of a century. He has earned the honor that we can bestow……………even if it does make us uncomfortable.
We stand for those who stood for us.
