SUMMARY:Roy Lee Bates
DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission\nRoy Lee Bates\nUSMC\, Korea\nWinchester\, Kentucky – 07-07-19\n\n\n Source: https://www.scobeefuneralhome.com/obituaries/Roy-Dickie-Lee-Bates?obId=4827828#/obituaryInfo \n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \n Mr. Roy “Dickie” Lee Bates\, 86 of Winchester. For this combat wounded Marine\, there could not have been a more fitting day for him to take his final journey to freedom than on Independence Day. Roy was honored to serve his country as a Marine. In early 1950\, this Kentucky boy found himself on a ship headed for combat zones in Korea. On September 1\, 1950\, just 3 days before his 19th birthday\, while on patrol there was an ambush and his group began taking heavy fire. As he began crawling on his belly\, he heard the dreaded click of a land mine beneath him. Before losing consciousness\, he realized that his left leg had been blown away. The Marines leave no man behind. One of them was killed in combat just a few days later. A highlight in Roy’s life and for his family\, many years later\, was getting to meet and to thank the other Marine for saving his life that day.\n\n\nPRIMARY STAGING DETAILS: 07-07-19 \nStaging Time: 15:30 PM \nScobee Funeral Home\n219 W Lexington Ave\nWinchester\, Kentucky 40391\n\n\nRide Captain: \nJohn Babcock\n859-771-2140\n\n\nSpecial Instructions: \nVisitation is 4:00 PM  to 8:00 PM\n\nFlags & Water:\nFlags will be provided\nLarge Bike Flags will NOT be needed.\nWater will be provided.\n\nSTAGING #2 DETAILS: 07-08-19 \nStaging Time: 10:30 \nLiberty Bible Church of God\n6615 Veteran’s Memorial Parkway\nWinchester\, Kentucky 40391\n\n\nRide Captain: \nJohn Babcock859-771-2140\n\n\nSpecial Instructions: \nFuneral Services begin at 11:00 AM.\nThere will not be an escort.
