ABOUT THE MISSION:
Colonel Roger Parrish was a United States Air Force veteran. He proudly served his country from 1957 to 1983. He attended flight school and trained in the T-34, T-28 and T-33. He graduated first in his class in 1957 and went on to train in the F-100 at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. Between 1959 and 1966 he flew the F100, F105 and F-4 at Bitburg Air Base in West Germany. In 1966 he was selected to attend the Air Force’s Top Gun school at Nellis Air Force Base. Roger won all 3 trophies available for academics, gunnery skill and a vote for best student by the instructors. In 1969-1970 Roger flew over 100 combat missions in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he once led another F-4 crew back to base after the aircraft had been badly damaged and the pilot seriously wounded. In July 1972 Roger was selected to fly with the Air Force’s Thunderbird demonstration team, leading the team in 1973 and 1974. He retired from the Air Force in September, 1983. While serving his country Colonel Parish earned the Legion of Merit w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal w/Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/Valor and Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Combat Readiness Medal w/Three Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal w/Four Service Stars, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon w/Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
