ABOUT THE MISSION:
Hero Shields was born in Newton, MA, 1931. After completing HS he entered Boston College, enrolled in pre-med and ROTC. After 2 years, he quit school and enlisted in the Army. Upon completing Basic Training at Ft. Chaffee, AR he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and became a Fixed Wing pilot, Artillery Fire Control Officer for Field Artillery. He was also Rotary Wing qualified.
Hero Shields had numerous career assignments with 2 tours in Vietnam, Iran, and as Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel at the Pentagon.
His Army career spanned from 1953 to 1977.
