DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission \nRobert S. Delsi\, Veteran\nUSMC  – Vietnam\nMULTI-CITY\, Arizona – 08 Mar 2018\n\n\n[HR][/HR]\nABOUT THE MISSION: \n\nRobert Delsi\, a Masquero Apache Indian\, was born into the Delsi family on 11 November 1948. \nIn 1969\, at the age of 20\, Robert felt the calling to serve this great country we live in and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a 0311 Rifleman.  Robert and the unit he was with went to Vietnam in 1969.  During his deployment Robert was seriously wounded from enemy fire in the Que Son Mountains.  Sgt Delsi was honorably discharged in 1972 and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in Vietnam\, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge\, Good Conduct Medal\, Combat Action Ribbon\, Cross of Gallantry with Palm\, Vietnam Campaign Service with Device\, and National Defense Medal. \nAfter his military career\, Sgt Delsi was determined to speak out for our military and bring awareness in many facets.  Sgt Delsi spoke at schools about suicide awareness\, PTSD\, and homeless veterans.   Sgt Delsi volunteered at Veteran Stand Downs and the Marine Toys for Tots drives.   Sgt Delsi was an active member in the American Legion\, Veterans of Foreign Wars\, Disabled American Veterans\, Military Order of the Purple Heart\, Chapter 432 of the Vietnam Veterans of America\, the 3rd Marine Division Association\, the Marine Corps League\, Arizona Semper Fi Vets and the Patriot Guard Riders.  Sgt Delsi’s community awareness did not stop there as he was also the Marine Corps League Chaplain and the Sergeant at Arms for the Ira Hayes Memorial American Legion Post 84.  Sgt Delsi was also a board member of the Piestewa Fallen Heroes Memorial.  Sgt Delsi handmade and presented special necklaces to signify sacrifice and bond shared by all of those associated with this memorial and the Gold Star Families.  Each necklace came with honor and ritual as Sgt Delsi would describe what each bead\, color and bone meant as he would present it. \nOn 23 October 2015 Sgt Delsi was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame for his unending commitment\, service and contributions to the Arizona communities and events across the United States. \nSgt Delsi passed on 1 March 2018 leaving a legacy of six children\, six siblings\, family and many friends.
