Robert served in the US Navy on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) from 10 November 1984 to 30 November 1989. He was Honorably Discharged at the rate of Aviation Boatswains Mate (Handling) 3rd Class (E4). He earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon\, the Navy Expeditionary Medal\, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal\, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/ 2 bronze service stars.
