Robert La Rosa, Retired, PGR

ABOUT THE MISSION:

Seventy-Nine year old Robert La Rosa served his country and community outstandingly an the US Air Force for 22 years followed by a career as a LEO with the Alamogordo, New Mexico Police Department. Bob was also the Chaplain for Alamogordo American Legion Post 34 and the 5th District of the Department of New Mexico. He was an active PGR member. As for community service, he was a member of the local Mustang Club. Bob succumbed to complications of cancer surgery on 26 May 2019.Of Bob’s 22 years of Military Service, 10 were overseas with significant time in Vietnam. He was an Air Force Crew Member during his Vietnam service. Bob retired on 31 July 1980 as a MSGT (E7) Aircraft Armament Systems Superintendent. His awards/decorations include Distinguished Flying Cross with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with 1 silver oak leaf cluster and 2 bronze oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 silver oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Special Instructions:

We will stand a flag line on Thursday evening, 30 May 19 during his viewing. We will stand a second flag line on Friday morning, 31 May 19 during his funeral service followed by an escort to the cemetery and a flag line during his interment service.The Holloman AFB Steel Talons Honor Guard will be providing Military Honors and the Alamogordo Police Department will conduct an honor service.
We will stage at Wal-Mart at 1600 hours, brief at 1615, and KSU at 1620 for Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 1st Street. Upon arrival we will stand a flag line during the viewing (approximately two hours). Due to the length of time for the viewing, we will stand in shifts.If you are a member of some other organization please pass this mission information on to them for maximum participation to honor this true American Hero.

Special Instructions:

We will stage at Wal-Mart at 1000 hours, brief at 1015 and KSU at 1020 for Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 1st Street. Upon arrival we will stand a flag line while family and friends are arriving for the funeral service. Following the service we will escort, in conjunction with the Alamogordo Police Department, to Monte Vista Cemetery, 1590 East 1st Street. At the cemetery we will stand a flag line during the interment service.
The funeral director has requested that the PGR provide 6 members to act as pallbearers. These 6 members will be picked at the briefing.
NOTE FOR EL PASO PGR MEMBERS: Stage at the Shell Station, 11390 McCombs Street (corner of McCombs and Gateway Boulevard- US Highway 54) at 0815 hours for a briefing and KSU at 0830 to Alamogordo.
