SUMMARY:Robert Dale Maxwell
DESCRIPTION:Honor Mission\nRobert Dale Maxwell\, Veteran\nUSA\, WWII\nMULTI-CITY\, Oregon – 05-31-19\n\n\n\nABOUT THE MISSION: \nLadies and Gentlemen of the Patriot Guard Riders\, we have been invited to stand for Robert Dale Maxwell\, age 98. Robert served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 as an Army Communications Specialist and was honorably discharged at the rank of Technician Fifth Grade (T/5). The gallantry of America’s oldest Medal of Honor recipient was well known. During WWII\, while stationed in Southern France\, a German hand grenade landed in the middle of his fellow soldiers. He threw his unprotected body on the grenade to save them. Robert received the Medal of Honor for his actions on that day\, along with his second Silver Star\, a second Purple Heart\, and a Bronze Star. Until his passing Robert was the only living Medal of Honor recipient in Oregon. He was a member of the Bend Band of Brothers. In his final years\, Robert helped create Oregon’s Medal of Honor Highway. It was dedicated in 2017 and runs from Newport to Nyssa\, the only memorial highway to cross a state nonstop.
