Honor Mission
Robert Dale “Bob” Haggard

The family of  Major Robert Haggard and American Legion Post 193, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the escort and stand a flag line for their hero.  It is our honor to do so (see special instructions below). The PGR will stand a flag line at his funeral at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  Robert graduated in 1951 from Windsor High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Central Missouri State University and Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Webster University. He was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.  After graduation from college, he was Band Director at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, MO. Robert volunteered for the draft and entered the US Army December 6, 1954. After a brief hiatus to complete his education, he re-entered military service by enlisting in the US Air Forcein July, 1961. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1962 upon completion of Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas and designated a Distinguished Military Graduate.  While in the Air Force, he was one of the original participants of the Minuteman Missile Program. In 1966 he transferred back to the US Army. During his career, he served tours of duty in Turkey, Korea and combat duty in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal while he was commanding officer of the 516th Personnel Service Company near DaNang,Vietnam. He was also awarded a Joint Service Commendation Medal. Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding service in Military Intelligence at Fort Bragg, N.C. He retired from the US Army having attained the rank of Major and completing 24 years of service.  He was a member of the American Legion with over 20 years of continuous service.  In Ft.Campbell, KY he served on the executive committee and was elected to First Vice Commander serving two and half years in that position. Upon moving to Chapin, S.C, he joined the American Legion Post 193 and served as Commander for 2007-08. Robert valued service to others and participated in many community service projects through the American Legion, Habitat for Humanity and St. Leo’s Catholic Church.  Chapin Post 193, in conjunction with the SC PGR will conduct the escort from Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin to FJNC prior to the service at FJNC.

This is a SCPGR Flag Line Mission at FJNC . Flag Line Staging @ FJNC Administration Building stage 1115 briefing @ 1130, for 1200 Service. Escort to FJNC will be led by/organized/briefed by AL Post Commander Steve Goulet Military Honors will be provided
