EOM – 16 Oct – PFC Robert Charles Hoyt – USA – Vietnam – Lawton, Ok.
On a beautiful SW Oklahoma late morning 5 Patriot Guard Riders gathered at Lawton Ritter-Gray Funeral Home in to honor the service of PFC Robert Charles Hoyt, US Army, Vietnam Veteran. They were soon joined by PFC Hoyt’s Son-in-law on his motorcycle, he would serve as the coach and ride with us as we accompanied PFC Hoyt to Fort Sill National Cemetery.
There was no service at the Funeral Home but we formed an honor line as Mr. Hoyt was carried to his son-in-laws bike for his final ride. After Mr. Hoyt was placed in the bike we were joined by Mr. Hoyt’s son-in-law and held our briefing. The briefing was delayed until this time to allow the funeral home a head start to FSNC to set up the shelter for the service. After the briefing we saddled up and proceeded though downtown Lawton, without LEO. We were fortunate to get though all the traffic lights without being separated and soon we were on I-44.
After arriving at FSNC we were led to the shelter for the service. Flags had been staked before our arrival and were flying in the ever present breeze.
We stood an honor line as PFC Hoyt was carried to the shelter by the US Army Honor Detail. After a short service the Detail folded the flag and presented it to PFC Hoyt daughter. The PGR invocation was read and presented, it was explained that the the PGR plaque had not arrived and arrangements had been made with the funeral home to get it to the family. This concluded the service.
I would like to thank the family for allowing us to honor their loved one, the riders – some of whom traveled form the Wichita Falls, Texas and OKC areas, the staff at FSNC who always do a respectful and professional job. But mostly I want to thank PFC Robert Charles Hoyt for his service to this great country. Stand down and rest, your mission here is complete.
Respectfully
Billy (5 Dollar) Hope
